Celebrating a Big Day in a small Way | Manhattan, Kansas Engagement & Wedding Photographer

Wedding Photos for a small, courthouse wedding

I was contacted by this couple a few weeks before their scheduled marriage date to capture some photos of them on the day they said their vows.  The new Mrs. flew in from her current home state of Florida and they exchanged vows in a small, courthouse ceremony with their two witnesses.  They are planning a larger celebration in the future to share their commitment with family and friends, so I was honored that they chose me to capture their only memories of this momentous day.  I know sometimes it doesn't seem real until the "Big" day, but vowing to share your life with someone is much more important the first day it is done! Because they are officially husband and wife, and they will always know when they first made that commitment to one another, even if others don't.

This couple was a bit shy in front of the camera so my main goal was to back off and try to help them feel the moment as if I wasn't there.  Of course, being Kansas, a storm began to roll in and the wind picked up making it a little more work, but that is ok!  We were all happy with the end result, and I am happy they will have some fun, real, and beautiful memories to remember this day.

A Gorgeous Topeka Engagement | Topeka , Kansas Wedding | Manhattan , KS Wedding Photographer

Love Abounds at a Lake Shawnee Engagement!

All I can say about these two and their engagement session is...WOW! Ok, maybe I can say a couple more things.  This future Mr. & Mrs. will be having a Topeka wedding next May and chose to have me do their engagement photos as well.  I am SO glad they did!  The two of them were so much fun to work with, they were completely comfortable and natural in front of a camera, and combined with their setting and some wonderful light, their engagement photos are amazing!  It is clear how very much in love they are and I cannot wait for their upcoming wedding!  I know it will not only be an awesome event, but there will be more beautiful photos to come!

Newborn Girl | 6 Days New | Manhattan, Kansas Newborn Photographer

Hello again! I got contacted last minute regarding a little one that had just been born and (oddly) didn't have any professional photos yet! To my great dismay, I knew we needed to get her into the studio STAT to remedy that problem! ;)

Mom & Dad are a military family and were SO excited about their little girl.  Dad's eyes were shining bright and I could just tell how excited he was! He even brought me a crate full of military gear, just in case. =)  My favorite picture is probably the one of Daddy holding her in the ONLY position that she considered to be acceptable at that point in time. It wasn't the traditional "pose", which is probably why I love it so much. It looks mildly uncomfortable, but utterly sweet and unique at the same time.

Overall, Baby girl did really well, though she did not care to be nude, but that is ok..that is why there are wraps! I was happy to be able to be their for them and their sweet little one when they needed me!

A Wonderful Wichita Wedding | Manhattan, Kansas Wedding Photographer

..in Andale!

Guess who is behind on her blogging? Surprise! Me! Shocking..I know.  It is hard to find the time upon taking thousands of photos to choose just a few, post just a few, and talk just a bit about those few! It's a hard life sometimes.. ;)

Anyhow! This wedding actually took place at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Andale, a suburb of Wichita.. but Andale didn't start with a "W", so there you have it!

This was a small, Friday evening wedding between a wonderful young couple.  The groom is currently studying at KState, and from the sound of it, is going to be an awesome businessman someday with his own business!  I spent six hours with this couple and their family.  It was a whirlwind of an evening, but we got a lot accomplished and their wedding was great!

The wedding and reception, decorated in Blue & White, took place at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Andale.  The reception was a small event for the family and friends to spend some time congratulating the couple, and of course, eating cake! The table decor was gorgeous and included a lot of "bling"!  Once the toasts and cake were done, the Mr. & Mrs. and I headed over to a nearby pond for some quick portraits before the sun completely set (though it was 95% gone already!).  After that, I followed them over to one of the parents' homes to capture their first dance and bouquet toss at the backyard after-party.  The party was complete with popcorn, marshmallows, chocolate, and ...Goobers (naturally..can't forget those!). There were some other candies available as well, but Goobers is much more fun to say. =)

Enjoy!

A Wedding Story | Manhattan , Kansas Wedding Photographer

A Vintage Inspired June Wedding.. with Kansas inspired Wind, Rain, & Sunshine (Yes, all in the same day)

Please allow me to share with you some images from this beautiful, vintage themed wedding I photographed in June of this year.  The Bride is a Kansas native, and the Groom came to Kansas for business.  The couple is off to another state in just a few months, so it was great to get to spend this blessed time with them before they go!  I loved this wedding so much, from the vintage details to the super-fun crowd.. Fun AND Beautiful? That's my kind of event right there! ;)

The day started off gloomy/stormy with some huge wind gusts..thank you Kansas.  The girls got ready at Grandma's house which was perfect for the occasion.  The Bride wore a gorgeous, strapless, form-fitting lace gown and the bridesmaids were dressed in a pale yellow.  Their flowers also had the vintage/country look as they were yellow and white dried flower bouquets..simple, beautiful, and elegant.

Once the ceremony, at the old St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Flush, KS, was completed, the wind was still making itself known to all of us.  We were able to squeeze in some Bride & Groom photos tucked away in an outside corner of the church, and a few bridal party photos amidst the sun blaring between wind gusts, then headed over to the Four Points , Sheraton Hotel in Manhattan for the reception.

The reception was complete with a cake stand adorned with the Bride's Great-Grandmother's pin, a top-layer wedding cake for the couple to cut, and lots and lots of cupcakes on the bottom two tiers as well as in, on, and around an old crate with flowers and other details.  The reception also displayed a nicely decorated guestbook table, some vintage coaster sets made personally by the bride & groom (including chalkboard ones that the guests could write on right there!), burlap and lace details, old books with flowers and candles on each table, and Mad-lib (remember those?!?) type cards at each table for the guests to fill out.  It really was beautifully done and everyone had a blast.  Most of the guests participated in the dancing, including a female circle around the groom while they took turns dancing around him in the middle; even Moms and Grandmas participated in this!   I know I have already said this.. but it was fun!

The Bride & Groom and I snuck out around sunset to go take some couple photos at a location nearby; the wind had died down around this time as well..yay!  The view was truly Kansas-mazing (I just made that word up RIGHT now).. there was a colorful sunset to the West and dark blue/gray storm clouds rolling through on the East.  All I had to do was change directions and it was like I was in a completely different place!  Once we were done we returned to the party for a few more photos of the guests and then the night for me was done.  I hope you enjoy reliving part of their day in the photos to follow!
