A Wedding Story | Manhattan , Kansas Wedding Photographer

A Vintage Inspired June Wedding.. with Kansas inspired Wind, Rain, & Sunshine (Yes, all in the same day)

Please allow me to share with you some images from this beautiful, vintage themed wedding I photographed in June of this year.  The Bride is a Kansas native, and the Groom came to Kansas for business.  The couple is off to another state in just a few months, so it was great to get to spend this blessed time with them before they go!  I loved this wedding so much, from the vintage details to the super-fun crowd.. Fun AND Beautiful? That's my kind of event right there! ;)

The day started off gloomy/stormy with some huge wind gusts..thank you Kansas.  The girls got ready at Grandma's house which was perfect for the occasion.  The Bride wore a gorgeous, strapless, form-fitting lace gown and the bridesmaids were dressed in a pale yellow.  Their flowers also had the vintage/country look as they were yellow and white dried flower bouquets..simple, beautiful, and elegant.

Once the ceremony, at the old St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Flush, KS, was completed, the wind was still making itself known to all of us.  We were able to squeeze in some Bride & Groom photos tucked away in an outside corner of the church, and a few bridal party photos amidst the sun blaring between wind gusts, then headed over to the Four Points , Sheraton Hotel in Manhattan for the reception.

The reception was complete with a cake stand adorned with the Bride's Great-Grandmother's pin, a top-layer wedding cake for the couple to cut, and lots and lots of cupcakes on the bottom two tiers as well as in, on, and around an old crate with flowers and other details.  The reception also displayed a nicely decorated guestbook table, some vintage coaster sets made personally by the bride & groom (including chalkboard ones that the guests could write on right there!), burlap and lace details, old books with flowers and candles on each table, and Mad-lib (remember those?!?) type cards at each table for the guests to fill out.  It really was beautifully done and everyone had a blast.  Most of the guests participated in the dancing, including a female circle around the groom while they took turns dancing around him in the middle; even Moms and Grandmas participated in this!   I know I have already said this.. but it was fun!

The Bride & Groom and I snuck out around sunset to go take some couple photos at a location nearby; the wind had died down around this time as well..yay!  The view was truly Kansas-mazing (I just made that word up RIGHT now).. there was a colorful sunset to the West and dark blue/gray storm clouds rolling through on the East.  All I had to do was change directions and it was like I was in a completely different place!  Once we were done we returned to the party for a few more photos of the guests and then the night for me was done.  I hope you enjoy reliving part of their day in the photos to follow!

Maternity Session..Times Two! { Manhattan , Kansas Maternity & Newborn Photographer}

Ready, Set, ..PoseReallyQuickBeforeYouGoIntoLaborAndHaveThatBaby! ;)

Since I am behind in my posts, I thought I would take this opportunity to combine two quick maternity sessions I did recently.  One of them is a wonderful friend of mine, and the other, is now a wonderful client! Both of them were actually due in about 1 week from the time they contacted me about doing a last minute maternity session, so needless to say, I got them in pretty fast since they could have their baby girls any day!  Typically, maternity sessions should be done between 28 to 32 weeks, or even as far as 34 if you are don't feel you are showing much, however the only absolute requirement to scheduling a maternity session, is you still need to be pregnant =) .

The first session took place at 12:30 in the Afternoon (can we say SUNSHINE?!), but I managed to find a nice spot right next to our church that blessed me with a sliver of shade so that we could get some nice images for her.  This session was scheduled about 9 hours beforehand as a fleeting thought before my friend went to bed and we picked the location when we walked out of church that afternoon and I looked around..not bad, huh?!

The second session was done in Manhattan so close to sunset that we almost ended up shooting in the dark! The sun had been enveloped in cloud cover about an hour before our appointment time and hadn't broken free by the time our session started.  Of course every photographer loves a good set of clouds for some diffused light.. but it is more appreciated during the day and not when it is already getting dark anyway! That is ok though, we got this session done nice and quick and the family looks beautiful.  Dad was away for work unfortunately, but at least she could send him a nice photo!

Engagement Photography { Manhattan, Kansas Wedding Photographer }

"Fall" in Love with a Spring Engagement!

It's that time again! Here is another beautiful couple that has allowed me to be their wedding photographer on their Big Day! Summer brings lots of craziness as we all love to get outside and enjoy the weather, therefore it doesn't allow much time for blogging! That is when we say, better late than never, as I post about my spring session towards the end of Summer! This soon-to-be Mr. & Mrs. are getting married in Missouri this Fall (hence the title, now you get the pun, don't you?)! They were a wonderfully sweet couple and I can't wait to photograph their wedding later this year!

Our session took place at the Kansas State University Gardens in Manhattan, Kansas since the Bride knew that she wanted a Spring setting, and I don't think it gets much more "Spring" than the Gardens! We started a bit earlier in the day so they could head home that evening and just took advantage of some nice shady spots while we waited for the sun to set a bit.  Their images turned out just as adorable as they are, and I really feel like their love for one another shines through.
