Boudoir sessions are some of the most rewarding and fun sessions that I do.  I love the way the women feel when they get all "dolled up" and do something that most have never done before and won't do again.  The self esteem and empowerment that comes from feeling gorgeous inside and out makes it so special.  Combine that with giving their spouse a thoughtful and usually unexpected gift just makes it that much better.  This truly is one of my favorite things to shoot and I appreciate every opportunity to work with women that may or may not realize how beautiful they are until they see themselves through my lens.  I pray that I have many, many more opportunities to show women how beautiful they are, inside and out, in the years to come.

If you are considering a boudoir or glamour session for yourself but feel it is "out of your comfort zone", then I invite you to contact me and I am happy to talk to you more about it.  Most women don't come to me because they are super models and do this all the time.  The majority have never done anything like it and are thrilled when they see how sexy and beautiful they can be.  With the right direction and posing from an experienced photographer, everyone can look like a super model!

Ready, Set, Wedding! | Manhattan , Kansas | Kansas City | Topeka | Engagement & Wedding Photographer

A few weeks back, I was lucky enough to photograph a fun wedding with a friend of mine in Abilene, Kansas.  This wedding was traditional, yet unique, and certainly a great time!  The color of the wedding was my favorite green and was incorporated in fun ways, including the groomsmans shirts, the usher's belts, the cake, and even the lights in the reception!  The couple was married at a local hotel, but we also traveled to a nearby field to get some one-of-a-kind bridal portraits.  The bride was hesitant, but trecked her way into the wheat (risking bugs and all!) so that we could get gorgeous images, such as the one seen below.  The ceremony was simple and sweet, the reception included finger foods and country line dancing, and the guests left happy with their lime green drink "koozies" personalized with the couples name and date. Congrats again to this beautiful couple - and may you have many blessings to come in your lifetime together!

I have had a few people ask me recently why I enjoy doing Boudoir photography,.. doesn't it make me uncomfortable?  The truth is.. absolutely not!  I truly LOVE shooting Boudoir sessions, and I look forward to more and more opportunities to do so here in the Manhattan, KS area or wherever I may travel to.  I did my own Boudoir session years ago for my third wedding anniversary as a gift to my husband.  It was his favorite gift ever, and the bonus was that it was one of the best and most fun experiences I ever had myself!  I love that I am able to create that for other women.  There is no greater feeling than having someone say to you, "Thank you so much, I look and feel so beautiful!  My husband couldn't believe it, and I feel like a supermodel!"  Combine that with helping a woman to invest in her marriage by creating such a thoughtful gift for her spouse, while renewing or enhancing their love and attraction for one another, and there is simply no down side to Boudoir!  Boudoir is a wonderful, unique gift that not every man gets to receive, but I bet every man would love!  So whether you are a newlywed looking for the perfect wedding gift for your new husband, or a woman that has been married for decades that just wants to renew the spark and remind her husband that she is still his, still finds him desirable, and wants to be desired herself.. Boudoir sessions are designed to make a woman look and FEEL beautiful.  They are not simply for the size 0, model-type body.  Boudoir is for all types of women.. after all, beauty has no size!  I have had the opportunity to photograph gorgeous plus-size women, as well as slender women!  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
and your spouse loves you the way you are, so lets get together and give him something he would never expect and never forget!  If you aren't comfortable in your own skin, then hopefully you will be after this experience, and I will be there every step of the way to help with posing that will enhance your favorite features, and even minimize those that you are more self-conscious about.  And most importantly, we will have a blast!

A Time to Cherish - Newborn Photography | Manhattan , Kansas | Fort Riley | Junction City | Wamego |

Life is full of milestones, particularly the first year when every day, week, and month comes with a new experience.  The first week of life is particularly beautiful as your baby begins learning how to live outside the womb, but still maintains a sense of peace as they sleep soundly (during the day at least!), and find their comfort nestled in the arms of a loving parent.  Newborn photography can definitely be a challenge as we move quickly, but not too quickly!, to get those precious images before baby is hungry, cranky, or just has to go potty!  But the end product is worth the effort!  These moments pass by so quickly, it seems like just the blink of an eye before they are gone.. images as you will see below, are best obtained in the first 7 days of a child's life.

Newborn photography is about capturing those once-in-a-lifetime photos that can only be obtained in the first few days of life.  It allows a parent to remember just how tiny those little fingers were when grasping onto yours, or how their tiny feet fit snugly in the palm of your hand.  

Photographing newborns requires great patience, skill, and attention to detail.  The editing that is done afterward to help get rid of the exema, dryness, yellow/red colored skin, etc. that many newborns have soon after birth is another act of love in itself.  It is a very detailed, time-consuming process to give newborns their beautiful, creamy skin, but making sure to maintain their adorable features and not leave them looking "over-processed".  I take great care in positioning and posing so that you and baby both feel comfortable, and your child is never in any danger.  As a mother, I completely understand how nerve wracking it can be to take your tiny little bundle out of the house within those first few days.  If you prefer, I even offer a "Family Experience" session for an extra fee, in which I will come to your home and take photos of your new baby and your family in your own environment.  Nothing makes me happier than providing you with photographs that you will forever cherish.. images to display proudly in your home so you can "remember when," as they continue to grow up too fast. .

Thank God for the Soldier | Army | Manhattan , Kansas | Fort Riley | Junction City | Wamego

Yesterday, I was blessed to be able to photograph one of the many Homecoming events for returning soldiers that takes place each year.  It was such an awesome reminder of how much our service members sacrifice for us each day.  I was able to share in the laughter, the tears, and the joy of so many as they welcomed home husbands, wives, fiances, fathers, mothers, sons and daughters.  There is something so bittersweet about a Dad meeting and holding his newborn child for the first time, or a proud wife that doesn't know whether to laugh or cry (who usually does both!).. it's these moments that make me so grateful for all that you do.

As an Army wife, I am no stranger to how much the family of the soldier has to sacrifice as well.  Let us not forget how much our service members of all branches and their families give up for us and our freedom so that we can do whatever it is we do.. including my opportunity to photograph amazing people and families.  America was built on the backs of men and women just like these soldiers who are willing to risk their lives and give up the comfort of their home, and the presence of their families, to ensure that we can call the United States our home.

God Bless all of our veterans - past, present, and future - and may we never take you for granted.. and for those that I met yesterday, and those that I didn't, Welcome Home!! We are so glad to have you back safely.. Thank You a million times for your service to our country.

My New Year's Resolution... Blog.. | Photography | Manhattan , Kansas | Fort Riley | Junction City | Wamego |

Happy 2013!  As I sit here I am being force fed a chocolate chip cookie, a baguette, and a bright green pear (made of plastic of course!), by my 2 year old.  So naturally.. I decide now is the time to stop delaying the inevitable.. it's time to blog.  Blah!  I have not been anxious to add another task to my to-do list.  I haven't been overwhelmed with spare time between cleaning up from vacation, taking care of my daughter/the house/my husband and all that that entails.  (I'm sure one or two of you can relate).  And, on the off chance I do get "spare time", it is mostly spent doing one of the many things I love - photography and all that it entails: reading, editing, ordering, scheduling, looking at accessories I can't afford, making plans in my head, etc.

I haven't had a photo shoot the last couple of weeks because of the holidays, which allowed me to break out my camera and take pictures of my family for a change as we "enjoyed" the snow.  I would be fibbing if I said that I loved snow.  I DO think it is very beautiful, and I can certainly appreciate it when I am inside and don't have to go anywhere.  Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to hibernate for the winter, and my daughter thinks it is fun to play in the snow.  Clearly, she didn't spend 25 years of her life living in Southern California! So we have to put on the snow bibs (ski pants for me), gloves, boots, jackets, and beanies just so we can go outside and make snow angels.  Some of you may think that is a little extreme for going in the front yard.. but it is necessary if I am expected to be outside for more than 5 minutes playing in snow!  I must admit, we did have some fun together, and it was much better than my experience the day before trying to get the car seat out of a vehicle when the doors were frozen shut!  Needless to say,  I am still looking forward to summer!  I do have quite an adorable snow bunny though..
